In South America, telecom infrastructure frequently suffers from unstable grid conditions, voltage fluctuations, and prolonged power outages. For Tigo's base stations, maintaining network uptime is mission-critical.
To address this challenge, we deployed our RS1KL-Li lithium rack mount online UPS system, specifically designed to deliver uninterrupted power to essential transmission equipment. The compact rack-mount form factor allows seamless integration into space-constrained telecom cabinets, while the integrated LiFePO4 battery pack (48VDC 30Ah) offers a service life exceeding 10 years — more than three times that of conventional lead-acid batteries.
Despite the region's high ambient temperatures, the battery's built-in Battery Management System (BMS) ensures real-time thermal regulation and cell balancing. The system also features a fast recharge capability, restoring full charge within 2 hours after each outage, ensuring readiness for subsequent grid disturbances.
Field data from Tigo's sites demonstrates a 70% reduction in battery replacement cycles and an 85% drop in site visits due to power-related failures. For operators burdened by high remote tower maintenance costs, this solution delivers unmatched total cost of ownership (TCO) and enhanced network reliability.
